Review: The Chai Company Rooibos Red Tea Chai Concentrate

What is this?

The Chai Company concentrates are a 1:3 mixing ratio (i.e., "super concentrates"), so just 2 ounces of chai to 6 oz milk makes an 8 ounce cup. That means this one makes twice as much chai as the more standard 1:1 concentrate ratio. The downside is that this makes it a little trickier to get the mix accurate. I mean, the half and half approach is pretty easy to eyeball and keep it in the ballpark. But mixing 2 oz of chai... well, if you're just half an ounce off, that can make a difference. I suppose the bigger the cup you make (e.g. 16 oz), the less of a problem this is.

In any event, the Chai Company's Rooibos chai is high is boldness, moderate on the spices, and moderate sweetness. This makes sense when you consider that the Chai Company's standard chai (black tea) concentrate is even higher boldness and lower sweetness. So it stands to reason that Rooibos tea, which is a sweeter and milder tea, brewed similarly would produce this type of result. This is a nice, bold, full-bodied and balanced tea. All Rooibos teas have no caffeine naturally.
