The Chai Company concentrate is a 1:3 mixing ratio (like Indi Chai). That means 6 oz milk to just 2 oz chai. So a little concentrate goes a long way here. That's great. But the flipside is that it's a little trickier to get it right, since measuring to exact ounces isn't always a high priority for those of you who may be like me. (Rather than measure, I'm more likely to just dump a "reasonable" portion in and call it about right.) But for this taste comparison, I measured carefully according to the directions.
The Chai Company's chai has high boldness (strong tea flavor), low spice, and low sweet. Think of this one as being the polar opposite to Oregon Original. Where Oregon is thin and very sweet, the Chai Company is a bold and full-bodied tea. It even looks significantly darker after mixing. But interestingly, this one does not have particularly strong spices. In fact, there is a distinctly mild flavor in regard to the spices. The mix calls for a lot of milk, but you wouldn't know it from the taste as the chai concentrate really cuts through and reforms the flavor completely. It definitely does not taste like milk (as Oregon Original or Starbucks chai tends to). In fact, this brew is so different from the thin, sweet Oregon Original that they couldn't be more different!
