Review: Blue Lotus Mint Traditional Masala Powdered Chai Tea



What is this?

All the Blue Lotus Chais packs a real punch into a 1/4 teaspoon, and Mint Masala is no exception. Yes, that's right, only 1/4 teaspoon per 8 oz cup! The spices are unbelievably potent. This Blue Lotus Mint Chai, like its non mint cousins, also has zero sweetener and zero milk substitute. It is intended to be mixed with half water and half milk (as traditional chai is made) and sweetener added to taste. (Your pick: Sugar, honey, Xylitol, Stevia, etc.)

The mint here is noticeable but subtle and not overpowering. This is nice because you can drink a few cups of it without excessive "mint buildup." I mean, lots of specialty flavors are nice for 1 cup, but a second becomes excessive. Not so much here.

A word to the wise regarding preparation: The directions call for first boiling the water, then adding the 1/4 teaspoon (supplied) of powdered mix, stir. Then add milk and heat. The reason for this sequence seems to be that the mix dissolves more easily in water. If you mix the milk and water and heat together, then add mix, it seems to "clump" a bit more. Not impossible, but easier if you follow the directions. Men may have difficulty with this concept. Yes, there is a reason I discovered why the directions are as they are. Guilty as charged ;)
